Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded Double Gloucester or Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt for seasoning the bread
  • 8 slices artisan bread
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices provolone cheese

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, shredded Double Gloucester or cheddar, heavy whipping cream, and 1/4 teaspoon of coarse salt. Mix until smooth and well blended.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and mayonnaise into the cheese mixture.
  3. Lay out four slices of artisan bread. Spread a generous amount of the cheese mixture onto each slice. Top with a slice of cheddar and a slice of provolone.
  4. Preheat your non-stick skillet over medium heat. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or butter on the outer sides of each sandwich.
  5. Carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet, cooking until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip the sandwiches and cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes.
  6. Once both sides are golden and crispy, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Let them cool for a minute before slicing in half.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese for easier mixing.
  • Don’t rush the cooking process; moderate heat is key to melting cheese without burning the bread.
  • Experiment with different types of bread for unique flavors.
  • For an extra indulgent twist, add crispy bacon or avocado slices.
