- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt to eliminate lumps in the cocoa powder.
- Pour in the water and stir until the dry ingredients are fully dissolved. The mixture will be quite liquid at this stage.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Continuously whisk the mixture as it heats up, ensuring it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Once the mixture starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low and stir for about 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla to enhance the flavor.
- Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to a storage jar. Let it cool completely at room temperature before sealing and refrigerating.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to three months.
- To reheat, thaw in the refrigerator and gently heat on the stove or microwave.
