Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces unsalted butter cubed
  • 1.5 cups milk

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Baking sheet
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie cutters or knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, turn out your dough and gently knead it 2-3 times. Roll it out to about 1-inch thickness.
  6. Use a cookie cutter or knife to cut out your biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Let the biscuits cool on a wire rack. If freezing, cool completely before storing in a freezer-safe bag or container.

Notes

  • Allow biscuits to cool completely before freezing to avoid ice crystal formation.
  • Try adding shredded cheese or herbs for a savory twist!
  • Store baked biscuits in a sealed container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
