Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Method
 

  1. Gather all your ingredients on the counter to ensure a smooth process.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the water, low-sodium soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, grated garlic, and grated ginger.
  3. Using a whisk or fork, mix the ingredients thoroughly until the honey or brown sugar is fully dissolved.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with a few tablespoons of cold water to create a slurry.
  5. Pour the mixed sauce into a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  6. Slowly add the cornstarch slurry while whisking continuously and cook for 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  7. Taste the sauce and adjust flavors as needed with more sweetener, vinegar, or red pepper flakes.
  8. Remove from heat, allow to cool, and then transfer to a storage container.

Notes

  • Store in the refrigerator for up to a week for convenience.
  • Freeze in ice cube trays for easy portioning.
  • Adjust sweetness or heat to suit your taste.
