Ingredients

For the Salmon:
  • 16 ounces skinless and boneless salmon fillets
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
For the Glaze:
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup pure honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Equipment

  • Steamer basket
  • Large pot or wok
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or brush

Method

Preparation Steps:
  1. Start by rinsing the salmon fillets under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels and place them in a shallow dish. Season both sides of the salmon with kosher salt and black pepper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground ginger, garlic powder, low-sodium soy sauce, pure honey, and crushed red pepper. Whisk the ingredients together until well blended.
  3. Fill a large pot or wok with water, making sure it does not touch the bottom of the steamer basket. Bring the water to a simmer over medium heat. If using a bamboo steamer, line it with parchment paper.
  4. Place the seasoned salmon fillets in the steamer basket, brush a generous amount of the sweet ginger soy glaze over each fillet, and steam for about 10-12 minutes or until the salmon is opaque and flakes easily.
  5. Once cooked, remove the salmon from the steamer and drizzle any remaining glaze over the top. Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

  • For a vegan option, replace honey with maple syrup.
  • Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free dish.
  • Add fresh herbs like cilantro or green onions for extra flavor.
