Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes adjust to taste
  • 1 jar spaghetti sauce (24-ounce)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound angel hair pasta

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Skillet
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Colander

Method

  1. Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiling, add the angel hair pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. This usually takes about 3 to 5 minutes. When done, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onions become translucent. Next, add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the dried basil and crushed red pepper flakes, adjusting the quantity according to your spice preference. Cook for an additional minute to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Pour in the spaghetti sauce, stirring well to combine with the sautéed onions and garlic. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Lower the heat and add the heavy cream to the sauce. Stir until the cream is fully incorporated, creating a smooth, creamy texture. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.
  6. Once the sauce is heated through, add the drained angel hair pasta directly into the skillet. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly with the spicy tomato cream sauce.
  7. Serve the Spicy Tomato Cream Pasta immediately, garnished with fresh herbs, grated cheese, or additional red pepper flakes if desired. Enjoy the creamy, spicy goodness with a side salad or crusty bread!

Notes

  • Don't overcook the pasta; it should be al dente for the best texture.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes according to your spice preference.
  • Simmer the sauce long enough to meld flavors, but avoid boiling vigorously after adding cream.
  • Use tongs to combine pasta and sauce for even coating.
