Ingredients

  • 1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes or any starchy potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Start by washing the Yukon Gold potatoes thoroughly to remove any dirt. Peel them if desired, but leaving the skin on adds texture and nutrients. Cut the potatoes into 1-inch cubes or wedges for even cooking.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the oil and butter over medium heat. Allow the butter to melt completely and start to bubble, but be careful not to let it brown.
  3. Once the butter is melted, add the cut potatoes to the skillet in a single layer. This helps them cook evenly and develop a nice crust.
  4. Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the potatoes, tossing them gently to ensure they are evenly coated.
  5. Let the potatoes cook undisturbed for about 5-7 minutes. Once they start to brown on the bottom, use a spatula to flip them over. Continue to sauté for another 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and tender when pierced with a fork.
  6. Once the potatoes are perfectly sautéed, remove them from the heat and transfer to a serving dish. You can garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives for an extra touch. Enjoy your sautéed potatoes warm!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, soak the cut potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the skillet; if necessary, cook in batches.
  • Experiment with different spices, such as paprika or cayenne.
  • Leftover sautéed potatoes can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated for a quick side dish throughout the week.
