Ingredients

  • 1 can (15-ounce) chickpeas drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup red onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • Whole-wheat burger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, and cucumber slices for serving

Equipment

  • Food processor
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Non-stick skillet

Method

  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly, and chop the red onion, parsley, and cilantro finely. Mince the garlic and set everything aside.
  2. In a food processor, add the drained chickpeas, chopped red onion, parsley, cilantro, minced garlic, ground cumin, ground coriander, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt. Pulse until the mixture is well-combined but still slightly chunky.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and stir in the chickpea flour. This helps bind the ingredients together and ensures the patties hold their shape.
  4. Using your hands, form the mixture into patties of your desired size. This recipe makes about 4-6 patties, depending on how large you want them.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Once your patties are cooked, it's time to assemble your Falafel Burger. Place a patty on a whole-wheat burger bun and top with fresh lettuce, tomato slices, and cucumber slices. Feel free to add your favorite sauces or dressings for an extra kick!

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor.
  • Make extra patties and freeze them for a quick meal later.
  • Substitute chickpea flour with breadcrumbs if needed.
