Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients - Gather all your ingredients and measure them out. Having everything ready will make the process much smoother.
- Step 2: Heat the Sugar - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the 1 cup of sugar. Allow the sugar to melt slowly, stirring occasionally with your wooden spoon. Be patient; this process takes a few minutes. You’ll notice the sugar transforming into a golden-brown liquid.
- Step 3: Add the Butter - Once the sugar is fully melted and has turned a deep amber color, carefully add in the 5 tablespoons of dairy-free butter. Be cautious, as the mixture will bubble up vigorously. Stir continuously until the butter is completely melted and incorporated.
- Step 4: Pour in the Coconut Milk - Next, slowly pour in the 1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon of full-fat coconut milk. Again, the mixture will bubble, so be careful. Stir continuously until the sauce is smooth and well combined.
- Step 5: Simmer and Thicken - Allow the caramel sauce to simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes on low heat. This will help thicken the sauce and enhance the flavors. If you prefer a thicker sauce, let it simmer a bit longer.
- Step 6: Remove from Heat - Once the sauce has reached your desired consistency, remove the saucepan from heat. Let it cool for a few minutes before transferring it to your storage jar.
Notes
- Store the sauce in an airtight jar or container in the refrigerator.
- When ready to use, gently reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop, adding a splash of coconut milk if it has thickened too much.
- Aim to use your caramel sauce within two weeks for the best flavor and quality.
