Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • 2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 16 ounces cheese curds
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Equipment

  • Deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed pot
  • Thermometer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels
  • Plate

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients on the counter. Measure out the flour, salt, eggs, milk, breadcrumbs, and cheese curds to make the process seamless.
  2. In one bowl, combine the flour and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and whole milk until well blended. In a third bowl, place the Italian seasoned breadcrumbs.
  3. In your deep fryer or large pot, add enough vegetable oil to submerge the cheese curds completely. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Take each cheese curd and first coat it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumbs until fully coated. Repeat with all cheese curds.
  5. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop a few breaded cheese curds into the oil at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 2-4 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried cheese curds and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Fried cheese curds are best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, place them in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding herbs or spices to the breadcrumb mixture.
