Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 6 servings
Course: Salad, Side Dish
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cabbage chopped fine
  • 1/4 pound carrots chopped
  • 2 tablespoons white onion chopped fine
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt or celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or spoon

Method

  1. Start by finely chopping the cabbage and carrots. A sharp knife will make this task much easier.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped cabbage, carrots, and white onion. Toss them gently to ensure an even distribution of ingredients.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, white distilled vinegar, sugar, salt (or celery salt), and celery seed until smooth.
  4. Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture. Using a spatula or large spoon, gently fold the dressing into the cabbage and carrots.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Give the coleslaw a good stir before serving. Enjoy it as a side dish or on its own!

Notes
