Start by washing your broccoli florets thoroughly. Trim them to similar sizes to ensure even cooking.
Place your large skillet over medium-high heat. Allow it to preheat for a few minutes until it's hot but not smoking.
Pour 2 tablespoons of olive oil into the pan. Once the oil is shimmering, add the chopped garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds or until fragrant.
Add the trimmed broccoli florets to the skillet. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if you’re using them.
Let the broccoli cook undisturbed for about 3-4 minutes to develop a nice char on one side. Then, stir the broccoli to flip it over.
Once the broccoli is cooked, remove it from the heat and add the zest of one lemon. Toss everything together.
Transfer the charred broccoli to a serving platter. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese for an extra layer of flavor.
