Ingredients

For the Brownies:
  • 1 box Brownie mix (plus all ingredients listed on the box for a 9x13 pan)
For the Pudding and Topping:
  • 6.6 oz instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 large container Cool Whip
  • to taste Chocolate candy (your choice, such as Snickers, M&M's, or Reese's)

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Trifle dish or large glass bowl
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Bake the Brownies: Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the brownie mix box. Prepare the brownie mix as directed, and pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into bite-sized chunks.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Pudding: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and 3 cups of milk. Beat until the mixture is smooth and thickened, which usually takes about 2 minutes. Set aside to allow it to firm up a bit more.
  3. Step 3: Fold in the Cool Whip: Once the pudding has set, take your large container of Cool Whip and gently fold it into the pudding mixture. Use a spatula for this process to ensure the mixture stays light and fluffy.
  4. Step 4: Chop the Chocolate Candy: While the brownies cool, chop your choice of chocolate candy into bite-sized pieces for layering and garnishing.
  5. Step 5: Layer the Trifle: In your trifle dish or large glass bowl, start layering the components. Begin with a layer of brownie chunks, followed by a layer of the chocolate pudding mixture, and then a layer of the chopped chocolate candy. Repeat until you reach the top, finishing with a layer of Cool Whip and a sprinkle of chocolate candy on top.
  6. Step 6: Chill and Serve: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight). When ready to serve, grab a large spoon and dig in!

Notes

  • Brownies can be frozen for later use.
  • Assemble the trifle just before serving for best texture.
  • Feel free to mix and match chocolate candies for a unique twist.
