Ingredients

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup sliced unsalted almonds
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped unsalted pecans
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped unsalted walnuts
  • 1/2 cup unsalted sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup toasted wheat germ
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • scant 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 cup dried fruits (such as cranberries, raisins, cherries, chopped apricots, currants, etc.)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Spatula
  • Storage Container

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your granola toasts evenly.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. This will help prevent the granola from sticking and make for easy cleanup.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, sliced almonds, chopped pecans, chopped walnuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, toasted wheat germ, shredded coconut, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir well to ensure an even distribution of the ingredients.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil and honey until well combined. This mixture will help to bind the dry ingredients and add sweetness.
  5. Pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients. Use a spatula to mix everything together until all the dry ingredients are fully coated with the oil and honey mixture.
  6. Spread the granola mixture evenly across the prepared baking sheet. Make sure it’s in a single layer for even baking.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Look for a golden-brown color and a lovely aroma.
  8. Once the granola is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. After it has cooled slightly, stir in your choice of dried fruits.
  9. Allow the granola to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, transfer it to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

  • Granola can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
  • For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to three months.
  • Thaw at room temperature or reheat in the oven for a few minutes to restore crunchiness.
