Ingredients

For the Fries:
  • 2 medium russet potatoes (about 1 pound)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon chipotle chili pepper
For the Salsa Ketchup:
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons salsa
  • Hot sauce to taste

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula or tongs
  • Oven

Method

Method:
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into fries, aiming for uniform thickness to ensure even cooking. About 1/4 inch thick works best.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, toss the cut potatoes with olive oil, cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, pepper, ground cumin, and chipotle chili pepper. Make sure each fry is well coated with the seasoning mixture.
  4. Spread the seasoned fries out in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. While the fries are baking, mix together the ketchup and salsa in a small bowl. Taste and add hot sauce according to your preference for spice.
  6. Once the fries are golden and crispy, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve with the salsa ketchup on the side for dipping. Enjoy your delicious Baked Mexican French Fries with Salsa Ketchup!
