Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cauliflower (about 1 1/2 lbs, cored and chopped, including small leaves and stalk)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (adds a rich, smoky flavor)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (provides a savory depth)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (adds warmth and earthiness)
  • 1 tsp salt (balances out the flavors)
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (add more to taste for heat; omit for milder flavor)
  • 1-2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil or avocado oil (for tossing the cauliflower)

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Cutting board
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Start by removing the leaves and the stem of the cauliflower. Cut the head into bite-sized florets, ensuring they are all roughly the same size for even cooking. Don’t be afraid to include the small leaves and some of the stalk—the more, the merrier!
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped cauliflower, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cumin seeds, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using). Drizzle 1-2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil or avocado oil over the mixture. Toss everything together until the cauliflower is well-coated in the spice blend.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes. This step is crucial as it helps achieve that perfect crispy texture.
  4. Once preheated, place the seasoned cauliflower in the air fryer basket. Spread the florets out in a single layer to ensure even cooking. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do this in batches. Cook for about 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even crispiness.
  5. After the cooking time is up, check the cauliflower. It should be golden brown and crispy on the edges. If you prefer it crispier, you can air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, but keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  6. Once your cauliflower is perfectly cooked, remove it from the air fryer and let it cool for a couple of minutes. The flavors will deepen as it cools slightly. Serve it warm as a snack, side dish, or toss it into salads for an added crunch. Enjoy your healthy indulgence!

Notes

  • Allow the cauliflower to cool completely at room temperature before storing.
  • Transfer cooled cauliflower to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, place the cauliflower back in the air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes until heated through and crispy again.
