Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110 degrees)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Kitchen towel

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add the vegetable oil, beaten egg, and sugar to the yeast mixture. Stir well to combine.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the salt and 3 cups of all-purpose flour. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces, shaping each into a round bun.
  7. Brush the tops of the buns with an egg wash (egg yolk mixed with water) and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let the baked buns cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Store buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
